Mix T Motions is an 8m 1996, Richard Edlin design, of Cedar and E-glass composite construction.
The crew comprises of Ben Allen, and Tom Reinhart.
Bens father, Jim Allen, purchased her in 2008. Jim is an accomplished sailer and his passion for the sport has rubbed off on Ben. Jim will be the support crew for the race.
Modifications include the installation of a new keel (which draws 2.4m) designed by Brett Bakewell-White, a Volvo Penta 13hp diesel engine, and an instrument upgrade from Navman to Raymarine.
Ben is no stranger to offshore sailing with ten Tasman crossings, Auckland to Japan, Auckland to Tonga and back, and Sydney to Hobart amongst other some of his trips.
Tom has covered over 5000nm coastal cruising and racing in NZ, Australia and South America. Much of this was gained cruising NZ’s north island coastal waters crewing and later skippering the family yacht Canzona a 54ft cutter rigged sloop.
Mix T Motions best result to date, was winning last years Southern 600 series on handicap.
Being only 8m in length she is expected to be the smallest boat in the fleet.
